Advantages of Using Biologically Motivated Dose-Response Models in Cancer Risk Assessment. Suresh Moolgavkar, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1124 Columbia Street, Seattle, WA 98104

Considerable controversy currently surrounds the use of biologically-based models in cancer risk assessment. One advantage is the use of such models is that it allows a complex problem to be broken down into simpler components. Another advantage is that more data can be used in the risk assessment process than is possible with current default procedures. These ideas will be illustrated with examples.
