Adapting Multiple Objective Decisionmaking to Incorporate Learning Over Time. R. Gregory and T. McDaniels, Decision Research and University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada

Mutliple objective decision making has been used to address many tough environmental risk problems. We review our experience in working with a representative stakeholder committee to develop a broadly-supported operating plan for a watershed near Vancouver, Canada. This multiattribute process required us to recognize the historical context of the problem, to assist participants in addressing the controversial tradeoffs posed by alternative plans, and to incorporate learning over time as an explicit objective of the decision process.

Note: This paper is proposed for the session headed by M. English, titled "Risk and Environmental Decisionmaking: Methods and Processes." It addresses the themes of Risk Management/Decisionmaking/Regulatory Policy.
