Biologically-Based Modeling: Coke Oven Emission Dose Response Analysis. Suresh Moolgavkar, Sciences International, Inc. and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
In 1986, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) completed a dose response analysis for coke oven emissions. Necessarily, this work relied on available cohort information which aggregated the exposed workers into exposure groups and assigned an exposure level for these workers. Since that time, the epidemiology database on which this analysis was based has been updated. This paper will present the analysis of lung cancer mortality in coke oven workers both for Allegheny County cohorts and non-Allegheny County cohorts. The data available to EPA in 1986 has been updated with 16 more years of observations. This paper will present the findings of the analysis which include detailed exposure profiles for each member of all four cohorts (Allegheny and non-Allegheny County white and non-white cohorts). This analysis has taken explicit account of the detailed exposure history for each worker.
