Wireless Technology Research (WTR), LLC was given the responsibility of developing and managing a comprehensive research program to create a scientific database for making public health decisions about the safety of wireless technologyspecifically regarding brain cancer. WTR began developing its research program by looking at existing research and identifying data gaps. Conclusions drawn from these data were used in developing the research agenda for the program. Key to the program is the development of appropriate in vivo and in vitro exposure systems that includes the ability to use three different doses for exposures and ensures exposures that can be most readily extrapolated to human use of wireless telephones. A standard genotoxicological battery will be tested in vitro and the single cell gel assay will test DNA damage in rat brains. WTR will also develop protocols for subchronic and lifetime animal bioassays. WTR is also coordinating case-control and cohort studies to gather epidemiological evidence from users.
