The French Ministry of Education and the national health insurance organisation (CNAM) have signed an agreement aiming to make the management of risks in the workplace part of the qualification and to energise its teaching by setting up specific educational tools. At the instigation of the INRS (National Institute of Research in Security), and within the context , the IHT (Institute of Human and Technology) has conceived and developed an interactive multimedia tool for improving awareness in detecting and managing risks. This tool is based on the educational principles of Ask Systems developed by the ILS (Institute for the Learning Sciences) in Chicago. In a traditional teaching situation, it is not possible to have permanent access to industrial experts (company experts, production and safety representatives, institutional experts working in this field (INRS,.INERIS) and their experience. With a special multimedia interface, the Ask System allows a dialogue to be set up between the user and this panel of experts, by accessing a database mainly comprising technical explanations and interviews. Generisque, which is built round this concept allows a pragmatic approach to risk prevention directly connected to the workplace. Its innovative educational approach also gives access to an original field of observation with regard the apprehension of risks in training programmes as it collates both the use of multimedia tools and represents the professional reality of the workplace.

The Generisque tool is currently being tested as part an experimental educational programme. This experiment is undergoing a technical and sociological analysis by IHT which aims to observe the conditions in which the product may be used, to fine tune the educational situations and to prepare for a wider use of the tool within the relevant training courses.
