Five Years of Sosnovy Bor Risk-Project.

The city is located on a southern coast of Gulf of Finland of the Baltic sea. The main idea of the project was the risk assessment and management for the public health and Environment. The project was proposed to be carry out in the framework of the Program IAEA/UNIDO/UNEP/WHO on the basis of methodological materials prepared by the world community.
With this purpose the team was established in the municipality to coordinate work of the various enterprises. The experts from the the Netherlands, Switzerland, USA took part in work. In administration of city the data were collected, the appropriate software were produced, the research projects were carried out.
Inventory and the risk assessment of the main chemical hazards have shown necessity of their account at planning development of city.
The research work subjects were included: risk of emergency at the enterprises of city, distribution of ground water near radioactive waste storehouses, possible collective impact of industrial facilities in case of an accident and many others.
The insurance of a liability of hazards facilities is begun on the basis of the available data.
The research work was continued with participation of Minatom of Russia and agencies and companies.
In 1999 the considered problems are as follows: the management of household waste, seismic monitoring system, influence of financial difficulties on a level of radiological safety, establishment of the regional children's centre of resources saving, the civil defense center in the city administration. The preparation of research for the next year is conducted.
As the result of the Risk-project the opinion about the most serrios dangers in the city have changed, the directions of activities in the sphere of natural resources use and environmental safety are determined, the environmental protection plans at the industries are made, the accident warning system is improved.
In the report the particular results, analysis of achievement and failures is made, the illustrative material is submitted.
