Model Validation Versus Model Calibration. F. Bois, Institut National de l’Environment Industriel et des Risques (INERIS)
It can be argued that the validation of a model is an unachievable goal. Model calibration, in order to check that a model correctly describe the data at hand, may be a more practical objective. Validation will be compared, conceptually to calibration from a decision analysis perspective. Consequences for regulatory activities will be discussed.
