The Problems of Environmental Risk Management in Ukraine. N. I. Borodyanskiy, International Solomon University
In the report presented the overview of the environmental problems in the Ukraine is done. Regional and transboundary air pollution, water quality issues and new methods for hazardous and solid waste management are considered. The problems of environmental education and public participation are described. Environmental management as a field and subject is just under development. Training to improve technical expertise and management skills on different levels are sorely needed. An important additional effort should be done in introduction of modern epidemiological methods in health research. In addition to mentioned different potential hazards are observed. Environmental liability and privatization problems are shown from the point of view of foreign investment interests. Different psychological adaptation and risk perception problems, the attitude of the population of the damaged area to the society and the future are investigated. The practical recommendations for creation of new principles and determination of concrete directions for the post-Chernobyl social policy are suggested both for Ukraine and the international community.
