Biotechnology Risk Assessment Discussion Group Established

May 16, 1997 -- The Biological Risk Assessment Discussion Group (BIOASSESS), which is less than a year old, is "intended to facilitate exchange of views and information on key issues in biological risk assessment and international regulatory developments," according to its mission statement.

Recent postings from subscribers in various countries included legislative updates, workshop and symposium announcements, and advance notice of upcoming projects related to biological risk assessment.

The discussion group, which is moderated, is open to any one who would like to join. To subscribe to the group using an electronic form at its Internet site, go to http://binas.unido.org/binas/Projects/binas/bioassess.cgi/subscribe/bioassess.

Leave the subject line (which is located in the header of the message) blank, and in the first line of the body of the message, type the word subscribe.

The discussion group is operated under the auspices of the Biosafety Information Network and Advisory Services, (BINAS), which is part of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. Founded in the early 1990s, BINAS' goal is to provide information and science-based tools related to biotechnology risk assessment and management to regulators, scientists, and industry officials around the world.
