August 21, 1998 -- A comprehensive database of more than 200 environmental agreements between local, state, and national governments across North America is now on line at the web site of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation.

The Transboundary Agreements Infobase includes the full text of many of the agreements and is searchable by topic, agreement name, or parties involved. An alphabetical index -- available in English, French, and Spanish -- also is on line for browsing.

The database "covers virtually all aspects of regional environmental policy: water management, air pollution, wildlife and conservation, waste management, industrial and natural hazards," the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s August 11, 1998, press release stated.

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is an international organization created under the North American Agreement for Environmental Cooperation, which complements the environmental provisions established in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The Commission’s goals are to address regional environmental concerns, help prevent potential trade and environmental conflicts, and promote the effective enforcement of environmental law.
