New Decision-Making Center Targeting Local, State, and Regional Levels A new National Center for Environmental Decision Making Research has been established by the Joint Institute for Energy and Environment (JIEE) with funding of $1 million per year for five years from the National Science Foundation, together with matching funds from other organizations. The center's goal is to provide regional, state, and local decision makers across the nation with the information, techniques, and processes they need to solve environmental problems. Forum To Compare Risk Approaches in Europe, Australia, and the U.S. The difference between U.S., European, and Australian approaches to environmental risk analysis is the focus of an upcoming forum titled "International Case Studies in Risk Assessment and Risk Management." The forum is on March 5-7, 1996, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, which is one of the event’s sponsors. (Posted November 1995.)

Risk Legislation Battle Continues Risk reform legislation was one of the most hotly debated and controversial topics in the halls of Congress during 1995, with much of the fracas surrounding three key issues: cost-benefit analysis, a super mandate, and judicial review. (Posted November 1995.)
