Commission Will Issue 2 Part Final Report in 1997

WASHINGTON, DC -- After receiving more than 100 comments from individuals and organizations, the federal Commission on Risk Assessment and Risk Management will release part I of its final report to the new Congress and administration in January. In response to the positive comments and requests for more detailed descriptions, part I will focus on the framework for risk management. Part II of the final report will be released in February. It will reflect comments on margin of exposure, bright lines, uncertainty analysis and the recommendations to specific agencies.

The commission will conduct an implementation phase to assist agencies and the Congress in maximum use of the recommendations. The commission is proud that it will have completed its work in less time than envisioned in the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.

Comments on the draft report, Risk Assessment and Risk Management in Regulatory Decision-Making, are available for public review at the commission offices, 529 14th St. N.W., Suite 452, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. A copy of part I and II of the final report can be obtained by sending a fax with name and address to (202) 233-9540. The draft report is available on the Internet at http://www.riskworld.com
