smallRW.gif (2706 bytes) Two Major North American Underwriting Organizations Form New Association; HOLUA, IHOU To Merge in Spring 2001

ORLANDO, Fla., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- After nearly seven decades of service, the Home Office Life Underwriters Association (HOLUA) and the Institute of Home Office Underwriters (IHOU) announced today the formation of a single successor organization. The Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU) will be launched as of May 1.

With more than 1,200 members, HOLUA has served on individual membership basis since 1930. IHOU was created in 1937 as a company membership association. It currently has 471 member companies. AHOU membership will be composed of individual underwriters and others associated with the selection of individual life, health and/or living benefits risks. This will also include medical directors, actuaries, agents, brokers, and related professionals.

The final annual meetings of both organizations will be held during 2001. HOLUA's "2001 An Underwriter's Odyssey" will be in Orlando, FL, May 6-9 at the Orlando Renaissance Hotel. IHOU's "Where Trends Are Born" will take place in Century City, CA, October 14-17 at the Westin Century Plaza Hotel. AHOU will hold its inaugural annual meeting in Seattle, WA, November 9 -12, 2002. According to Brian Baxter, President of HOLUA, the new association will promote education and professional development, which have long been goals of HOLUA and IHOU.

"The objectives of the new AHOU will be to advance knowledge of individual risk classification and management, to promote professional excellence and to encourage its members to act according to its Code of Conduct," Baxter said.

Home office underwriters participate in a rigorous and diverse professional education curriculum of study leading to the designation Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU). In addition, many outlets for continuing professional education exist, including an ALU Seminar Program and a professional journal read in 55 countries -- ON THE RISK.
