The Society for Risk Analysis-Japan has selected the theme "Risks in Urban Lifestyles and Ecosystems" for its ninth annual meeting, to be held November 21-22 in Tokyo at Sumitomo Kaijo Kasai Hoken K.K. Meeting participants will discuss the diverse risk problems relevant to urban living, the consumer society, and city disaster prevention, as well as recent trends of risk analysis problems in the ecosystem that sustains human existence. The program includes some 32 invited lectures and reports in addition to several presentations of individual research and case studies.

A special symposium will focus on the relationship between a socially acceptable risk level of hazardous chemical substances and the environmental criteria. Cosponsored by the Society for Clean Air Environment (the former Society for Preservation of Clean Air), the session is expected to attract many participants concerned about the legislative reform of Japan's "Clean Air Act."

Japan Section is expecting to publish the special Japanese and English language edition of its journal in early 1997. Some 30 papers were submitted for the volume.
