The Europe Section of the Society for Risk Analysis will hold its 1996 Annual Meeting on June 3-5 at the University of Surrey in historic Guildford, which is only 50 kilometers (around 31 miles) from London, United Kingdom. The university's Centre for Environmental Strategy and the meeting's director, Ragnar E. Löfstedt, also of the centre, are organizing the annual meeting on the theme "Risk in a Modern Society: Lessons from Europe."
Geneva Association, The Times Give Support. The International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics, also known as the Geneva Association, and The (London) Times are giving support to the meeting. The association will sponsor its 21st Annual Lecture at one of the meeting's plenary sessions. SRA Outstanding Service Award recipient and fellow Howard C. Kunreuther of the University of Pennsylvania will give the lecture. In addition, the week before the meeting The (London) Times Higher Education Supplement will publish and circulate 12 to 15 of the annual meeting papers, for which the authors will receive remuneration.
The annual meeting program will include four additional plenary sessions featuring such recognized speakers as SRA-Europe's Past President Detlef Müller of Procter and Gamble Gmbh., SRA-Europe Executive Committee member Ortwin Renn of the Center of Technology Assessment in Baden-Württemberg, and SRA fellow Lennart Sjöberg of the Stockholm School of Economics' Center for Risk Research. The oral and poster presentations will be in four tracks: food, technology, and risk; industrial risk and insurance; risk communication; and new trends in risk management.
