the Crossroads web site to provide safety, health, and environment

The site has grown to become a safety, health, and environment search

a collection of over a thousand searchable safety, health, and environment

National Pesticide
Telecommunications Network

This
cooperative service of Oregon State University and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency provides objective, science-based information about
pesticide-related subjects, including pesticide products, recognition and
management of pesticide poisoning, toxicology, and environmental chemistry.
The network is a source of factual chemical, health, and environmental
information about more than 600 pesticide active ingredients incorporated
into over 50,000 different products registered for use in the United
States since 1947. NPTN operates 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pacific time, 7
days a week, excluding holidays; accepts calls toll free from the United
States, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands; and responds to written
requests (see contact
information).
NPTN also hosts the National
Antimicrobial Information Network, a toll-free telephone service
that responds by telephone or mail to information requests about

International Atomic Energy Agency (the United Nations agency for nuclear
science and its peaceful application) in cooperation with the United Kingdom's
National Radiological Protection Board, provides a broad overview on the subject
of ionizing radiation. The booklet includes the effects and uses of ionizing
radiation, as well as the measures in place to ensure it can be used safely; the
benefits and risks of practices that use such radiation in medicine, industry,
and energy production; and some topical concerns about environmental pollution,
waste management, emergencies, and transportation safety. Links to on-line

Launched at the Fourth World Water Forum, March 16-22,
2006, in Mexico City, the Internet resource WSPortal
is a collection of web-based practical guidance for the effective
development and implementation of Water Safety Plans--health-based risk
assessments that identify problems in a water system and chart
corrective actions to take--for the improvement and maintenance of health
through water. WSPortal is part of Partnership to Health
through Water, a global alliance of programs and initiatives dedicated
to reducing the incidence of water-related disease worldwide.
The partnership's collaborating partners include the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency and the World Health Organization.
