This 120-page report summarizes preliminary information on
the earthquake gathered by U.S. engineers, scientists, and
government officials who were in Japan during the disaster
attending the workshop on earthquake hazard reduction. The report
includes pictures, statistics, and observations on geoscience and
geotehcnical issues, architectural and planning background,
damage to buildings and transportation structures, lifeline
systems, emergency response, and societal and economic impact.
