The Society for Risk Analysis Conference and Workshops Committee is scheduling four two-day forums in 1997 -- one per quarter -- that will provide an opportunity for in-depth examination of topics highly relevant to the risk assessment community.
The first two forums will be held in the Washington, D.C., area. Yacov Y. Haimes of the University of Virginias Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems will chair the first, to be held February 10-11 on the topic "Risk of Extreme and Rare Events (with Applications to System Acquisition, Natural and Man-made Hazards, and Infrastructure Management)," and Virginia H. Sublet of the University of Cincinnati will chair the second, to be held April 27-29 on the topic "Communicating Scientific Information in the Courtroom." Elaine Faustman of the University of Washington will chair the third forum on "Biologically Based Dose Response Modeling: Fact or Fallacy?" to be held in the summer at a site to be announced. The committee is still planning the fourth forum.
