International Council on Nanotechnology (ICON)
|
|
The creation of a sustainable nanotechnology industry requires
meaningful and organized relationships among diverse stakeholders. The
International Council on Nanotechnology (ICON) is the only global
organization aimed at providing such interactions for a broad set of
members. Managed by Rice University’s Center for Biological and
Environmental Nanotechnology, ICON activities ensure
effective nanotechnology stewardship through risk assessment, research,
and communication. (Posted

National Nanotechnology
Initiative (NNI) |
|
Twenty-three federal agencies participate in the National
Nanotechnology Initiative, a research and development program
established to coordinate the multi-agency efforts in nanoscale
science, engineering, and technology. In addition to maintaining a
world-class R&D program aimed at realizing the full potential of
nanotechnology, the NNI intends to facilitate transfer of new
technologies into products for economic growth, jobs, and other
public benefit; to develop educational resources, a skilled
workforce, and the supporting infrastructure and tools to advance
nanotechnology; and to support responsible development of
nanotechnology. (Posted April 2006.)

Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies
|
|
A partnership established in April 2005 between the Woodrow Wilson
International Center for Scholars and the Pew Charitable Trusts, the
Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies is dedicated to helping ensure as
nanotechnologies advance that potential human health and environmental
risks are anticipated, properly understood, and effectively managed;
that public and consumer engagement remains strong; and that the
potential benefits of these new technologies are realized. Collaborating
with researchers, government, industry, NGOs, policymakers, and others
to look long term, to identify gaps in knowledge and regulatory
processes, and to develop strategies for closing them, the project will
provide independent, objective knowledge and analysis that can inform
critical decisions affecting the development and commercialization of
nanotechnologies. The project website includes archived webcasts, a list
of research projects, and nanotechnology inventories.
